S.Nyam-Ochir seizes silver at Baku Grand Slam

State Honored Athlete of Mongolia S.Nyam-Ochir fought in the men’s 73 kg event of Judo Grand Slam held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from May 8 to 10, and captured a silver medal.
S.Nyam-Ochir defeated wrestlers from Uzbekistan and Turkey in the first round. In the second round, he beat an opponent from Ukraine with a yuko score and advanced to compete in the semi-final. At the semi-final tournament he defeated a judoka from Germany, but lost to Rustam Orujav of Azerbaijen in the final, securing the silver medal.
Labor Hero and State Honored Athlete Kh.Tsagaanbaatar also competed in the men’s 73 kg event, and defeated opponents from Belarus and Brazil in the first round. He lost to judokas from Hungary and Russia in the second round.
A total of 40 judokas participated in the men’s 73 kg event.
The team from Azerbaijan won two gold and one silver medal, topping the team rankings, followed by Romania and Russia. Mongolia placed 15th in its team results with a single silver medal.
